I was bewildered. Rent your friendship? Is friendship a service?

Apparently, there is this website where you can rent your friendship either for a charge or for free. Believe it or not, people from all over the world are renting their friendship. And to think that 3,000 people would pay for friendship? What are they, desperate?

"The site, which is meant for people to find friends to hang out with, especially when they are overseas..."
Couldn't they just go through a travel agent for a good qualified tourist if they needed it? Or even if they just want to socialize, isn't there the almighty FaceBook?

However on the other hand, people do have to sign up with a fee in order to rent a service. This would be rather safe as minors will not participate in this.

Doesn't this put a stink to the word friendship? We need friendships not friendshops!
