Now this is something I didn't expect to happen. The government is planning to increase the pay for maids! Apparantly the government thinks that this will allow only serious and long-term hirers to want to recruit an indonesian maid. Perhaps it is due to the increase in the number of rape and abuse cases that have happened in this country. Then again, if that is the case, I doubt it would make an impact.

For me, I am certainly pleased that the wages for indonesian maids are increased. However, I hope that this does not cause the people who hire these maids to force them to abide by outrageous rules or sign ridiculous contracts that trick them into lowering their pay.

Regardless, both sides should work together and not cause the other side to be disadvantaged. I know of maids who do not do their jobs properly and end up losing sight of children or causing accidents at home. I hope that the training for maids is more strict as well. I they want to be able to earn that extra amount of money, they should prove that they are worthy of it!
